As growing children we were unable to test what we were told, so we generally ended up accepting almost all of it without question. We saw what we were “told” to see.
Whatever each of us may believe today had this as its starting point, and it was mostly unconscious. It is what can ultimately limit what you are able to see. It also automatically leads you to have certain expectations. What you believe and what you expect, in turn, directly influence the perception you have of everything happening around you. This then is what becomes your experience of the world . . . your reality.
That is why whatever we may personally identify as “reality” will be different from that for everyone else. None of us is is able to see things clearly and objectively. Why? Because each of us is uniquely influenced–and limited–by the input of our senses, our respective thoughts, our histories, and where we choose to direct our attention. . . much of which is often subconscious. In addition, what we see is even further distorted by our judgments, fears, and desires.
This leaves each of us essentially “blind” to all but a minuscule part of the Greater Picture, of All That Is. This is the normal state of being human.
The remedy? Take moments now and then for reflection and meditation. Learn a new clarity of vision by valuing wisdom over knowledge. Cultivate the humility that brings insight. Ask questions, and remain open to exploring the unknown and the Unknowable.
